Movie!

Throwing yourself into new experiences can be terrifying. The unknown forces us to stretch beyond the end of where our comfort zones usually lie. This is a short film I made from footage shot last December while doing just that in New Zealand.

Hi Christine, cool video. I’ve only been ocean kayaking, but always wanted to go on a river. This looks beautiful.
Were you being towed a lot, or just while you shot video? How strong was the current there?

    • L probably averaged about an hour or less of towing a day, mostly when she, in her much faster kayak, got impatient with K and I in our sluggish old-school canoe…

The river is class 1 with a touch of class 2 thrown in for excitement. The current was gentle, but moved quickly enough that if you don’t mind being a straggler you can get between the huts without too much effort. Honestly, we had a bit of a headwind for an hour or so on the second day and had to work pretty hard against it, but otherwise we could have just floated blissfully along.

You should totally go for it and kayak a river if you get the chance. I’m told the current makes it easier than ocean.

      Happy paddling!
